“With infinite time and resources we could do anything, but the boring designer knows we have neither of those things.”

It's always a balance — it has to be — and it's in that balance I thrive. Time, power, bad ideas, resources, organisational changes, a hybrid tech team; in the end, they're all just design constraints, and I know how to navigate that. That perspective has shaped how I work across startups, scale-ups and large organisations. To me, working as a designer is mostly having an ever-changing, ever-changing toolbox to systemathically understand what I don’t know.

The real work happens before solutions take shape. After work, I’m a father of two teenagers and an avid hobby photographer. I spend evenings as a volunteer football coach, leading a group of insubordinate teens to glory — my own little Wrexham project.

I’d love to chat about projects small and big.

“With infinite time and resources we could do anything, but the boring designer knows we have neither of those things.”

To me, working as a designer is having an ever-evolving toolbox that lets me apply the right method at the right time, and learn what I don't yet know.

Then throw in time, power, bad ideas, resources, reorganisations, hybrid teams. In the end they're all just design constraints. It's always a balance, and it's in that balance that I make, test and learn. That perspective has shaped how I work across startups, scale-ups and large organisations. The real work happens before the solution takes shape.

I'm a senior product designer, and most of my career has been spent on complex software for professional users: trading and corporate banking at Nordea, a regulated European platform at Bemakers. The work I value most is taking something messy and making it legible, then staying with it through implementation so the intent survives contact with the real product.

These days I don't just design the thing, I build it. Over the last year I've worked hands-on with AI tools like Claude, Cursor and Figma Make to take ideas from concept to something running, not just something prototyped. It's changed what one person can take responsibility for, and it's definitely the most interesting space for designers right now.

After work, I'm a father of two teenagers and an avid hobby photographer. I spend evenings as a volunteer football coach, leading a group of insubordinate teens to glory. My own little Wrexham project.
